Class of 2017 begins their first year at ASDOH with a White Coat Ceremony

On Sunday, July 14, ASDOH and Dean Dillenberg welcomed new students and their families by hosting an ice cream social at the ATSU campus in Mesa. Dr. Norman Gevitz, the new Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, participated in the event and contributed to its success by making cordial remarks to the families and new students joining the ASDOH family.

The following day, the first official day of school, the Class of 2017 introduced themselves to their classmates and a number of ASDOH faculty and administrators. Later in the afternoon, the White Coat Ceremony was held in the Mesa Center for the Arts Ikea auditorium.

The event began with a rousing rendition of the National Anthem by the nationally recognized trumpeter, Dr. Jessie McGuire. Dr. George Bluespruce then delivered an American Indian blessing for the class. Following the blessing, Dr. Harold Slavkin, former Director of the National Institute of Dental and Cranial-Facial Research and former Dean of USC Dental School, gave the keynote address. He spoke of leadership, advocacy and the future of dentistry.
