Dr. Jack Dillenberg welcomed the dental directors from our ICSP (integrated community services program) sites where the fourth year students rotate, to the ninth annual Faculty Advance at the Mesa Hilton. Dentists from Bethel Alaska to Elsworth Maine and many states in between were present. There were about 150 internal and external faculty in attendance. There were thirteen ASDOH graduates among the dental directors and faculty – an incredible representation! The event lasted one and one half days.
The advance featured the return of Dr. Leila Jahangiri, Chair Department of Prosthodontics NYU College of Dentistry who conducted a workshop on teaching strategies, faculty development, curriculum design, consensus building, and learning outcomes. In addition, Dr. Roy Shelburne shared from his personal experience to help identify areas of vulnerability related to potential healthcare fraud. Dr. Eladio Pereira, the Chief of Medical Staff and Clinical Services at the Mariposa Community Health Center in Nogales, Arizona, had been recognized as Preceptor of the Year by SEAHEC in 2010. He discussed issues related to border health, immigration, and Native American health care delivery. It was a great event and everyone left inspired and motivated to continue their great record of success! They also left looking forward to next year’s Advance, which will celebrate its Tenth Anniversary.
